Trim the Tree, and Your Energy Bills
Posted: Friday, November 09, 2018
LED holiday light exchange, available now!

As we enter the holiday season, Stoughton Utilities is reminding our customers about the benefits and advantages of energy efficient lighting options to help customers trim their holiday energy bill. This year, upgrade your lights and celebrate safely and economically!

We recommend replacing traditional holiday lights with a more energy efficient lighting option to decorate the home or business, such as compact fluorescent (CFL) or light-emitting diode (LED) lights. Compared to standard incandescent holiday lights, LED lights offer several advantages. LED holiday lights use up to 90 percent less energy to produce the same amount of light as incandescent bulbs, cost significantly less to operate, and last longer than standard lights. LEDs and CFLs also emit much less heat than traditional lights, greatly reducing the risk of fire hazards, and do not have the same components that cause traditional lights to burn out or combust.

By combining your LED holiday lights with indoor and outdoor timers, you never have to step outside or reach around a tree to turn your decorations on or off. Not only is this convenient, but it can also save energy by ensuring you never again forget to turn your lights off at the end of the evening.

To help you get started, we’ll give you a strand of LED holiday lights and a holiday light timer!
Now through December 21, while supplies last, Stoughton Utilities customers can bring in four items as a donation to the Stoughton Personal Essentials Pantry and receive a new string of LED holiday lights and light timer! The Personal Essentials Pantry helps families in Stoughton with household essentials that aren’t provided at the food pantry including:

Toilet Paper
Kleenex
Body Wash
Shampoo & Conditioner
Toothbrushes
Toothpaste
Deodorant
Feminine Hygiene Products
Laundry Detergent
Dish Soap
Diapers
Baby Wipes
Winter Hats
Mittens
Scarves

This offer is limited to up to one strand of exchanged LED lights and one holiday light timer per utility account, during our regular office hours now through December 21, 2018, while supplies last.

Always celebrate safely
Stoughton Utilities also wants customers to be aware of safe operating practices for all types of holiday lighting. To start, home and business owners should always remember to turn off tree and decorative lights, both indoors and outdoors. Control devices like motion sensors, timers and power strips are a great way to ensure decorative lights are off. With numerous types and brands of holiday lights available, it is also important to read safety and use directions carefully to ensure lights and decorations are used appropriately and for the intended and approved purpose.

Remember to follow these important electrical safety tips during the holidays!
